CONTENTS INTRODUCTION OCEAN WATER MASSES ----------------------------------------------------------------------
* INTRODUCTION This lecture is an attempt to focus on non-geologic examples. It will hopefully provide examples from paleoclimate and water column examples.
* OCEAN WATER MASSES This is an example that I have wanted to do for a long time. There are many good profiles across ocean basins of basic parameters such as salinity and tempurature. We can create vertical images just like seismic lines. Lynne Talley (who I took Physical Oceanography from) has a good website with these maps: http://sam.ucsd.edu/ There are a number of atlases. Let's start with the Atlantic Ocean which looks to have some better sections. Lets grab the basemap and some of the lines from the northern hemisphere. wget http://sam.ucsd.edu/vertical_sections/atl_sections.html wget http://sam.ucsd.edu/vertical_sections/atl_sections.gif
