Chart Update Mashup

Necessity is the mother of invention.

When I first learned about the Notice to Mariners and went to update my nautical chart, I couldn't understand why I had to keep flipping back and forth between a pdf (or the critical chart corrections on-line table) and a chart. All the corrections had lat/long positions, why couldn't they just be overlaid on a chart for me?

Overlaying on the Chart

ChUM brings together the critical chart corrections with individual nautical charts to show easily distinguishable icons at the location on the chart where it was changed.

  • Easy to see how many corrections there are
  • Easy to see the locations of corrections
  • Helps to determine if you need to update your charts right away
  • Easy to distinguish between the various types of corrections being made
  • Can include Mobile Oil Drilling Units
  • Can include Broadcast Warnings

Interactive Table

ChUM includes the option to display a moveable, resizeable, sortable and filterable table.

  • The table can be filtered with text on any column
  • The table data is linked to the icons, so hovering on a row will cause the associated icon to bounce.
  • Filtering the table data also filters the icons on the chart.
  • Easy to search for specific buoy names
  • Easy to search for specific changes (add, delete, change, etc)
  • Just check the option in the chart menu to toggle the table on and off.

Historical and Unpublished Data

Typing in the chart's last corrected date will display all of the corrections made from that date forward.

  • Easy to match your specific chart updates to the corrections.
  • Makes it possible to see the history of an item (as long as it's name isn't being changed)
  • Helps with QA of chart makers/updaters.
  • Sometimes the online updates will come out sooner than the published ones.

Update your charts the easy way.
